On: Marketing
In 2021, I sat down with Blavity to chat about my career in healthcare, beauty, and the business of marketing.
If someone had told me years ago that I'd leave a steady nursing career to make plant-based facials more inclusive, accessible and affordable, I probably would’ve laughed. But that’s exactly what happened—and I’m glad it did.
My career started in the ER in 2011. I was a registered nurse, overwhelmed, and running on fumes. Eventually, I made the leap to become a nurse practitioner in 2015, which gave me more freedom—but I still needed a creative outlet. That’s when I started a tiny little blog about beauty, wellness, and holistic living. No one read it (truly, no one), but it was the spark that ignited eleMINT.
eleMINT started as a dream to blend what I knew (science and skincare) with what I loved (community and well-being). I didn’t just want to offer facials—I wanted to create a space where beauty felt real, rooted, and restorative. A place where people could feel seen in their skin and leave a little lighter than they came in.
As the business grew, I hit that fun moment all entrepreneurs know: the marketing struggle. I had the vision and the services, but I needed support getting the word out. That’s when I found Meta Elevate, and to be honest, I was skeptical. But what I got was mentorship, strategy, and clarity. Weekly sessions helped me understand digital marketing in a way that actually made sense. They taught me how to speak my brand’s language in ads and connect with my audience in a way that was authentic and effective.
Most of our clients found us through Instagram—and Meta Elevate helped me reach them in smarter, more intentional ways. At a time when I felt overwhelmed and unclear on growth, they gave me tools, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
My advice to anyone building something from scratch:
There is always space for you. Competitors aren’t enemies—they’re mirrors reminding you to focus on your magic. No one can do what you do like you do it. You are the secret sauce.
So keep creating. Keep evolving. And never underestimate the power of a blog post that nobody reads—because it just might be the beginning of something beautiful.
